How to do the Overhead Press
- Stand with feet shoulder-width apart, barbell at collarbone height
- Grip the bar just outside shoulder-width
- Brace your core and squeeze your glutes
- Press the bar straight overhead, moving your head slightly back to clear your chin
- Lock out at the top with the bar directly over your spine
- Lower under control back to your shoulders
Form tips
- Don't lean back excessively — keep your ribs down
- Push your head "through the window" at the top
- Full lockout at the top for maximum benefit
- Exhale as you press, inhale as you lower
